Brandon Rodriguez, MD, is a board certified, award-winning ophthalmologist specializing in advanced cataract and refractive surgery. He is also a cornea trained surgeon, who specializes in pterygium surgery and cutting edge treatments for dry eye syndrome.
After obtaining his medical degree from Penn State University College of Medicine, he was commissioned as an officer in the U.S. Navy and volunteered to go with a U.S. Marine Corps infantry battalion overseas for 2 deployments, including Afghanistan, after 9/11. Upon returning home and finishing 5 years of active duty military service, he completed his residency in ophthalmology at State University of New York (SUNY) – Downstate Medical Center, eventually serving as a chief resident. Finally, he completed his fellowship in cornea and refractive surgery at the world-renowned Weill Cornell Medical College, Cornell University, in New York City.
His advanced training and experience in cataract surgery, LASIK & PRK, pterygium surgery and in cutting-edge treatments for dry eye syndrome have resulted in him serving on numerous medical advisory boards for several pharmaceutical companies throughout the United States. He is published in medical journals and a frequent guest speaker at key medical meetings on cataract surgery and medical and surgical options for corneal diseases.
His continued passion to obtain the best surgical results for his patients has resulted in his ability to achieve corrected vision for his post-operative LASIK and PRK patients of 20/20 or better, consistently higher than the national average, according to SurgiVision, LLC (a National LASIK surgical database). During this time, he has also been graced with numerous awards including Who’s Who Among Healthcare Professionals & Executives in America, the Mellinger Medical Award and the Hy Berman Memorial Award in Ophthalmology.
Dr. Rodriguez lives in Tampa, with his wife Virmary (a Tampa native) and their 3 children. During his free time, he enjoys spending time with his family, traveling, cooking and competing in different races, including the Tough Mudder (which benefits the Wounded Warrior Foundation).
